Shops Game Rework

Kovaze 2 months ago

Good morning, Kovaze! We're excited to share an upcoming rework to the format of the shops game. Our bottom line is that competition should drive prices 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻, not up. Players should not have to grind for days just to obtain a single design. Likewise, Shop Owners shouldn't feel like they have to keep hiking up prices just to succeed in the Shops Game. We're hoping this change will make the Shops sector feel more rewarding for both shop owners, and their devoted customers! Shops moving on: ̶3̶ → 0 Bids open per round: ̶5̶ → 6 Total round stocks: ̶1̶8̶ → 25 Minimum stocks per design: ̶3̶ → 5 We're removing the concept of the top 3 shops moving on due to the undesirable gameplay it promotes. It forces shop owners to post high, by punishing them for posting lower than their opponents. This style of gameplay is very unforgiving to new users who are less experienced with shops. We're hoping with this new change, owning a shop will feel more of an enjoyable experience, than a stressful one. We still want the Shops Game to remain rewarding for Shop Owners, so we will be increasing the total number of stocks per shop to 25 to allow Shop Owners to sell more, and gain profit. We're rolling this change out next round (meaning the top 3 shop owners from the current round will still be able to move on). We want to observe how these changes impact the economy and the shops game for a few weeks, so expect some numbers to be tweaked around in the near future. We're excited to hear your opinions regarding these changes! - The Kovaze Team

cswaggerr DK after some discussion, we’re actually quite keen on exploring the two-tier system more! This might be the route we end up taking instead. We’ll share more by the start of next DC

wow this is really great!! it’s actually so wild seeing a dev (or devs?) taking into account how layered community-based games like Kovaze are and providing solutions and changing things up, instead of sticking with original design choices like past websites have done. i do wonder; what’s the deal with bidding on a shop after you’ve already had one? is there a cooldown? can you bid on a shop the very next week? would love clarification on how that works. thanks.

sin I also always thought a 2 tier shop system would work well. You have the standard public shop system we have now and then a gifting shop tier where the Shop owner gets a certain amount of stock they can send to friends. You can put less stock per shop to balance the system, and allow the shop owner to directly send them as gifts or purchase for themselves without the possibility of another user purchasing. I think for a lot of people the goal with a gifting shop is getting designs and gifting all their friends. I personally would love this and wouldn’t be looking for the return in coins. I also think users would purchase coins to get a shop like this.

Can it please not be minimum 5 stock? You only get to post 5 designs which isn’t much variety, could it not be 3 minimum still with 24 stock?

PLEASE CAP THE PRICES AT $200

i wanted this in tengaged, but here i feel everything is decently priced for how easy it is to get coins here!

My only concern is about the bids . Many people will probably bid high to open a shop , which means that in order to make their money back, they’ll sell at higher prices so they can still have profit and some benefit from it.

Have you considered a two tiered shop system? You could have a public shop game and a private shop game, with different rules for both. The public shops could have a minimum posting price based on the economy (to avoid gifting for 1 coin), more stock and an incentive of competition. Then the private shops could be strictly for gifting, but you have limited stock (maybe 10-12?) and you don’t move on from those. You bid on both. Obviously not perfect but maybe something to keep in mind! sin

DK It wasn't touched on in this post, but the other concern was not having enough designs for sale (and having days where the shops are completely empty). We do want players to have the option to 1 coin gift, whilst still having a reasonable amount of stock available for the public. It's a puzzle for sure, but we're open to suggestions!

If that is the goal, I think this is a really smart change. I guess I’m just worried with this change there will actually be *less* public stock for users to buy if the cost of shops are going to be lowered as well. If they don’t have to post as much to make their money back, the rest can be used on themselves and their friends (not necessarily a bad thing, just a thought). TBH, that would be a fair trade off for the current system since ultimately it’ll make the economy (or, the amount each coin is worth) a bit better for all. :) sin

DK It's hard to say whether shop owners will make a profit if they allocate some of their stocks to gifting. Ideally, posting all of your stock for the public at a fair price should allow you to earn slightly above breaking even, enough to make a rewarding profit for making good sales. It's hard to predict how the game will react to these changes, hence we're hoping to trial run it for a few rounds before revisiting it.

Interesting. What do you hope that the prices of designs goes down to then? Realistically I think this would only benefit the shop owners to post enough to make a profit, then the other half of their stock goes towards gifts for themselves and their friends.
