it depends what scares you. its different for everyone. I find home invasions/personalized killers the scariest.
the original strangers and Hush are the most tense movies I have seen. Like ghosts and shit don't scare me too much. Sinister is the only one that actually scares me like Kemi said. but that's bc it's (title wise) more sinister than that.
I do find movies from this year were pretty good, but typically-- movies from the 90s-2010s are miles better lmao.
