does not mean "cancel every event that could be used against them even if it's well-intentioned"
Protecting minors is explaining WHY they should not be doing vulnerable like sharing their name/image/address/etc online with strangers. You can use what has happened to you to help do so if you feel inclined. But at the end of the day, the internet is extremely vast and anyone can do anything on it. There are truly evil people in this world, some of which people on this site/the past site were friends with for YEARS and didn't even know.
At the end of the day, each person is responsible for their actions online. This is not a slight to people who've made a wrong decision and were unjustly abused by others. It is a warning for all people exploring the internet for the first time to the millionth time.
Be smart with what you do, with what you share, and who you share it with. Protect yourself.
