Depends on who you are playing with and what they think is important. I think luck has an element too cause you might get put with someone who is offline for a day and you can survive with that.
Plus if you are in a tribe that takes food and water seriously and you contribute to that, then that might help.
So try to go from kinda ass to meh/mid to have a chance to get to merge and see what happens from there.
