DNTM Photo 5 Critiques
When I saw the tennis theme, as a major tennis player/fan myself, I was super excited to see what you ladies were going to come up with, and you have all put your own spin on things and I really enjoyed digging into your photos this week. I'm pretty confident in my top couple photo picks, and unfortunately my bottom choice, but the rest in the middle were really hard to order.
https://www.kovaze.com/blog/93637 Go support the photo blog, and if last week was any indication, my critiques don't actually impact the game I just do it for fun :)
ohEMgee: I really enjoy this photograph. The motion is great and the overall aesthetic is very cute. I think you missed the luxury/high fashion element a little bit with the outfit choice combined with the cutsie jump, but I really enjoy this photograph for what it is. A big element of this photoshoot was your ability to find your light in a night time photoshoot, and I think you did this well!
Jordie: What’s the score? Love all? You have the high end luxury feel to this photo, and I love the pop culture reference here. The pose itself doesn’t immediately say athletic energy, but when you look closer at the photo it has a few details that really do make it seem more athletic, but also top model. Although you aren’t in heels, your top leg has your foot pointed, and your bottom foot is only touching its toes to the ground as if you are wearing a heel, and it helps this photo a lot. You are sitting on the chair, but not resting on the chair. A lot of girls have done seated poses this season and faced directly to camera making them look very short, but this photo keeps your length because you turned slightly to the side. Your face for sure is giving the confidence and elegance we are looking for, and I know you are about to get up and kick both of those boys’ butts on the court.
Gabs: Who’s turn is it to serve? GABS. FINALLY a pose that is giving you life in this competition. Where has this been the last few photoshoots?!?! It is athletic yet clearly says I’m a model, and the choice of heels on the tennis court is actually working here really well. At first, I thought the ball on the ground was a missed detail, but I actually love how it looks like you are balancing the top of your foot on the ball as if you are about to roll it with your foot. Small details to watch: with the heavier eye make up this week and the dark lighting, I miss the whites of your eyes here. Also, the net in the back clearly doesn’t line up so just watch that (I know how hard that was to fix with the AI) Also, I think the photo is strong without the words on it but that’s just personal preference.
MissChloeKay: The all white look was a good choice. The pose is not SUPER strong, but I do love the movement in it and that both of your feet are slightly lifted off the ground. I think the face could have been giving us a bit more today, especially after last week where I thought you had the best close up in the group! The neon lighting was also a choice I don’t think gives high fashion luxury here. You look great, and it this photo was given in week 1 or 2 I would for sure feel like you would be safe, but this week I do think this puts you at risk as it just doesn’t pop for me.
Melanie: I think this is a cute photo, and I could see it being an ad. The pose is sort of playful, and I like the overall look. You are rocking that new bob. The downside is the pose isn’t exactly giving athletic energy, but it works in this composition. I would watch the night time lighting not hitting your face here. Only the side of your face furthest from the camera is catching the light, and you would want it to be the other way around in a profile.
Ralts023: Game, set, matchy matchy! I love the US open reference, and the look is actually something I could see an athletic version of on my screen at the upcoming French Open. The low cut back makes it more of an eveningwear luxury look which says model, and when combined with the tennis shoe and pose it says athlete, which is exactly the prompt here. I love you are on your tippy toe, and the angles you created with your arms and other leg add a lot of much needed dimension to the photo. The trophy sitting on the ground is a little out of place, it maybe could have been on a table or somehow being held here or maybe taken out completely, but it doesn’t do enough to take away from how great you look here.
Biancabae: Your choice of clay court is a nice touch, especially given you look like you are in Greece or Croatia somewhere. The pose is definitely athletic, but almost too on the nose for this (Its actually not bad form for the start of a slice backhand….) and you lose a little bit of the model in you. The hair movement is fun, and the eyes are great here. I’m not a fan of the cropped-out foot.
AngieKStan: This was a risk and you know it, and it was a close call. Let’s check the hawkeye….. hawkeye says it’s IN!!! (if you know you know). I actually love that you played with dimension in the photograph and although the racket pulls a lot of focus, I still look at your face first. The pose is overall strong, and the uniqueness of the photo really grabs attention among the group. A couple of small details I would have liked to see to make this a top photo: your hand in the air I might have wanted to see grabbing the fence. One or both of your feet pointed to give a little bit more model here, and the outfit is juuuuuust bordering on cheerleader not tennis, but it works. If you had taken the logo off the top it wouldn’t seem as cheerleader as it does.
Desh: To me, this is a return to form for you. The pose is cute, yet elegant. The balance on just the tippie tippie toe works for me and you’ve created great movement in the skirt. I have been waiting for someone to wear a jacket, so thank you for adding that detail. When you think of tennis you don’t think of jackets, but many of the professional players do accessorize jackets as they come to court, and they are usually oversized and cropped just like this one. Your face could have been a bit stronger, I can tell you are thinking a bit too much, but overall you really made this photo come together and found a way to embrace your makeover! I’m struggling with the court dimensions being way wrong, but I don’t notice it right away because you for sure are the main focus.
NicoRobin: I love the pose as it is very athletic, but like Bianca it is very on the nose and a little bit less model. I will say the elevated back foot and arm not holding the racket do give a bit more model, but you could have taken this a step further to elevate the photo even more. Sometimes to make a photo really high fashion you have to exaggerate everything. You caught the light on your face well, but the cropping of this photo is a bit off for me.
Fiji: I personally love this photograph of you. It’s dynamic, and very athletic yet you didn’t lose the model. To capture the light and still make this strong face when you are flipping your hair and are nearly upside down is pretty great! You did make a few small detail mistakes in this photograph: your heels look like two different boots, and your right booty cheek is showing, or your choice of half white half nude tights was bad… Other than that great job! I think the photo is strong enough to make up for the small details in editing.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen you put me at the top haha. Just know that I love reading your critiques and I always try to improve using some of them. I had only watched one season of ANTM before this game, and it had been years, so recently I’ve been studying the show a bit—I’m even watching Cycle 10 since I managed to find it with Portuguese subtitles. I hope to keep it up this week and improve in the next rounds.
Its the amafi coast babes, the lux court actually exists hehe
