With 10 Royale games under my belt, and having lost 10 games of royale worth of sleep... I have some thoughts!
♦ WHAT MAKES ROYALE EXCITING? ♦
A few things make the game really enjoyable. Specifically, the stakes of the game making everything so serious. Because you only have one chance in a 50 player game, it's like a crazy fun pressure cooker. There are ways to make it far if you aren't great at competitions. People take things extremely personally, so you find yourself hesitant to make game moves. Communication is a huge deal, so you end up making some best friends and huge enemies.
♥ WHAT MAKES ROYALE A GOOD GAME? ♥
There are a bunch of different items, which makes gameplay very adaptive. Depending on what item you're trying to use, affects the strategy for killing someone. Example, bombs basically run the game at 10hp per hit. Stocking up on kunai's means you can go in and really take someone out. The competitions still being random also gives everyone a chance to still win in a luck competition. The items are well explained, so that's helpful too.
♣ WHAT IS WRONG WITH ROYALE? ♣
Well, to be fair. Quite a bit. The first thing that needs to be addressed, is that players who are INACTIVE need to be punished. I don't mean players not participating actively, but those at 12 hours. I understand the zones can change etc., but players can still stay camo'd into the new zones. There needs to be a change directed at this. People may think "Oh, well it's only fair to give everyone an equal shot!" But the inactive players run the game. Due to the fact that these players are not clicking popups, they have no items. So there is not much of a reason to try and arrow them out from 100 health when they aren't attackable. The inactive players end up getting placements between 10 and 20, which is honestly just unhealthy. Second issue, is that stamina needs to be looked at. Every player has 100 stamina, and loses 20 per move. In the 5x5 grid of 25 spaces, you are only able to move 5 spaces every couple hours. Unless you are going down to 80 and regenerating back up to 100 at maximum efficiency, it just feels bad. Third, running away in fights doesn't really make sense in this game. There is no reason players should be able to camouflage while being actively in combat.
♠ TIDE, HOW WOULD YOU FIX THIS? ♠
Alright, hold on with me. Here's every time i've thought, "Wow, I wish _______ was different."
•Dynamic hunger scaling. Players should become "famished" if they don't eat within 24 hours. This would double the food decay rate, so that they start taking damage. Most players will eat a piece of food within 24 hours, because your food will be around 35.00/100.00 by that point. So yeah. No more 2 days inactive in the mid game.
•We need more energy options in the game. Energy drink is 100 stamina (to cap), Rope is -50 stamina. Potential fixes would be to have an item that increases energy regeneration for a certain amount of time. A zone that changes to provide (or lose) stamina regeneration. Such as the danger zones providing 1.5x stamina.
•More items need to be implemented. There is 1 common, 3 uncommon, 2 rare, 1 epic, and 4 epic tier items. Lets start adding in some of those 1 and 3 star items into the game. Energy bar, 20 energy. Bandages, 10 health. Apples, 5 food. Shield, protect the next incoming projectile.
•When fighting someone, they shouldn't have the option to run away by camouflaging. Part of the risk of using an item, or moving, is that you have to stay active for those 15 minutes. If you are attacked during that time, your timer should reset. That gives you 5 minutes you can still be attacked after.
•On this point, when someone runs, sometimes you get 10 health, sometimes you get 0 health. I know it has to do something with camouflaging and running vs just running but its weird.
•It would be helpful if there was a page link you could click at the top that brings you to a page with all the players when you're in game. It could be a simple redirect like how the draft in celebrities is linked.
•DO NOT CLICK buttons need to be addressed. Yes, the auto clickers were terrible. But I really don't think this is a healthy way around this. Especially when if a player is positioned first (on the furthest left) to a location, their attack button is right above the popups. I have big fingers, this is just really a negative QOL feature for the game overall.
•A second bloodbath or feast would be a serious game changer. If a random feast took place 24 hours into the game, where a zone was locked and stocked with items, and then all the popups were there out in the open and unlocked at a specific time... OH BOY. The game would move faster, and so much more drama would happen lol.
Other than that, it's pretty fun! Tagging people who have made my royale experience, and would have good ideas as well to improve the game!
