Misogyny has absolutely shaped the U.S. Big Brother franchise, and it’s one of the show’s most consistent, ugly undercurrents.
Time and again, women are punished for the exact behavior men are rewarded for. When men play hard, they’re “strategic.” When women do the same, they’re “crazy,” “emotional,” or “bitches.” Vanessa Rousso was mocked for crying while running one of the most dominant strategic games ever. Rachel Reilly and Janelle Pierzina were vilified for confidence and competitiveness that male legends are celebrated for.
There’s also a blatant sexual double standard. Women are reduced to “showmance girls” or shamed for flirting, while men face no consequences for similar—or worse—behavior. Meanwhile, men have openly demeaned women on the show, ranking their bodies or speaking violently about them, and production has often minimized or excused it.
Even in editing and jury perception, misogyny persists: women must play perfect games to win, while men can be sloppy and still be respected. Strategic women are framed as emotional liabilities instead of masterminds.
Big Brother mirrors society—and society still struggles to respect powerful women. The show doesn’t just reflect misogyny; too often, it rewards and reinforces it.

I have chosen to use the Power of Veto on TombRaider. The HOH must now select a replacement nominee.
