MADONNA albums ranking 2026

Malibu 1 hour ago13 views

Who's hyped for CONFESSIONS II and her new single with Sabrina tonight? Me! Let's take a look back at her iconic discography and rank them. 14. Like A Prayer (1989) Despite a killer title track, for me the rest of the album really has very few other good songs, even some of the top 5 I don't particular love. Top 5: Like A Prayer, Cherish, Spanish Eyes, Till Death Do Us Part, Keep It Together. 13. Hard Candy (2008) To me this album is half good, and half shockingly bad and for that reason it comes in at a measly #13 Top 5: Give It To Me, 4 Minutes, Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You, She’s Not Me, Voices. 12. Madonna (1983) I do really like this album, it has a great classic 80s pop vibe to it and is one of her most cohesive pieces of work. However, compared to her other albums it is forgettable and doesn't really have anything that stands out as great, which every other album does have. Top 5: Borderline, Burning Up, Lucky Star, I Know It, Holiday. 11. Erotica (1992) I used to really hate this album but it has grown on me over time. It's so different and strange in parts that it is quite hard to digest at first, but it's these same things that make it really interesting when you sit with it for a bit. I do still hate the title track though. Top 5: Deeper and Deeper, Rain, Bad Girl, Why’s It So Hard, Waiting. 10. True Blue (1987) This album arguably has her strongest singles so I know people will be mad about this placement, but for me an album isn't just about great singles, its about the full project, and the rest of the album is not that great at all. Top 5: La Isla Bonita, Papa Don’t Preach, True Blue, White Heat, Open Your Heart 9. Music (2000) I love this album’s unique sound, it feels way ahead of it’s time and with the sounds she combined in this project, there really is nothing else like it. However there is one song on this album (What it feels like for a girl) that really lets this album down for me. Top 5: Gone, Music, Paradise (Not For Me), Don’t Tell Me, I Deserve It. 8. MDNA (2012) This was my favourite for a time, and it is a great body of work. However, like most music from this time period, it has aged badly due to the EDM fad that just doesn't live up to modern standards. Top 5: Masterpiece, Girl Gone Wild, Beautiful Killer, Gang Bang, I Dont Give A. 7. Ray Of Light (1998) A classic and favourite for many. I used to not really like this album either, it's another one that's sort of hard to digest at first due to it’s uniqueness. It is something rather special though, and undeniably a great album. I can't put it any higher than this though as I do find it slightly boring at times and definitely isn't really a go to album for me to that often. Top 5: Frozen, To Have and Not To Hold, Has To Be, The Power of Goodbye, Nothing Really Matters. 6. Rebel Heart (2015) I love this album a lot. It is probably her most easy listen as it is pure pop throughout. I think it has some great songs and nothing that I dislike. However, unlike a lot of her other albums there is nothing particularly unique about it, it's really just your average pop album that any artist could have released, and for that reason I can't place it any higher than this. Top 5: HeartBreakCity, Joan of Arc, Devil Pray, Messiah, Inside Out. 5. Bedtime Stories (1994) This is maybe one of her most underrated albums. It did have well charting singles at the time but none of them have stood the test of time like a lot of her other singles have, you never hear them being played or even talked about. Anyway I think this a really solid body of work, extremely cohesive, a little different from other albums of it’s time but not too left field that it's unpalatable. Top 5: Love Tried To Welcome Me, Bedtime Story, Secret, Human Nature, Forbidden Love. 4. American Life (2003) This album deserved much better. It is widely considered one of her best amongst her fanbase, however it is one of her least commercially successful albums. It is another one that's pretty experimental and different, but it has some amazing songs and some really interesting moments. Top 5: Nothing Fails, American Life, Hollywood, Intervention, Easy Ride. 3. Like A Virgin (1984) This is the ultimate 80s album and it's PACKED with classics. Despite how many great singles this had, my favourite is actually one of the album tracks which just speaks to how good the album is overall! Top 5: Stay, Into The Groove, Material Girl, Dress You Up, Angel, Like A Virgin. 2. Confessions On a Dancefloor (2005) The holy Bible. This was such a huge moment in Madge’s career, a big comeback after the flop of American Life, and she delivered what many consider to be her best project. It has everything you could ask for from an album. Consistency. 0 skips. Amazing transitions, and one of the biggest singles of all time. Top 5: Hung Up, Sorry, Get Together, Let It Will Be, Like It Or Not. 1. Madame X (2019) I debated for some time whether this is still my favourite or not, and unfortunately for the haters it still is. While it doesn't really contain my favourite Madonna songs in general, I have to consider the full body of work when judging an album, and I just think she did something here that is so special. The way she was able to make a cohesive body of work while every song sounds different. She pulled from different genres from all over the globe including some really unexpected songs. Many didn't get it, for me it just works. Top 5: Crave, Killers Who Are Partying, Faz Gostozo, I Don’t Search I Find, Looking For Mercy. I expect most of you will disagree with this ranking and that is okay! I would love to hear what everyone else thinks of Queen Madonna’s immaculate discography. 👑
