The owner is clearly trying. The site is moving forward and honestly it is doing pretty well. Updates, fixes, new stuff, all of that takes time and effort and I get that. This is not me saying the owner is lazy or the site is trash.
My issue is the culture around it, especially some of the owner’s followers.
Every time someone criticizes an update, even if they are complaining in an annoying way, the same thing happens. People jump in to shut it down. They call it whining. They act like you are disrespecting the owner just because you do not like a change. And the worst line is always “just leave if you do not like it.”
That is a problem.
Because telling people to leave over criticism is not protecting the community. It is pushing people out. It teaches everyone watching that the only safe opinion is a positive one. If you are frustrated, you better stay quiet or get attacked. That does not build a bigger player base. It does the opposite.
Most people are not going to argue with a loud group of defenders. They just stop talking. Then they stop playing. And new players who see that vibe will not stick around either.
You can support the owner and still allow criticism. You can appreciate the work and still say an update feels bad. Both can be true. A healthy community can handle complaints without turning it into “you are either loyal or you are gone.”
If the goal is growth, shutting down every negative opinion is one of the fastest ways to make sure the player base never gets bigger.

Personally if you are going to provide criticism, just whining won’t fix it. Most of the time when I see criticism it is like that/one sided and not seeing things from the other perspective in an objective way. Plus the tone and how it presents makes a difference. Offering solutions could help but we are not behind the curtain, so some ideas that sound great may not work at the time cause of specific limitations. I guess transparency from that end would be nice. But again if grown adults are crying and whining about things instead of handling it in a respectful manner than why handle their hissy fit? To me, it gives others the mindset of “oh if I act like that I can get things what I want/changed” and that is not a good style to get things done especially in today’s climate. I do agree that saying “ to leave” over criticism is bad but if the person is just doing the same thing over and over and not even attempting to see things from other perspectives, then well… Tldr: There is an appropriate way to get things addressed and crying and whining is not the approach.
NicoRobin I get what you’re saying and I agree with parts of it. Tone matters, and if someone is just raging with no specifics, it’s not very useful. Also yes, we’re not behind the curtain, so some “easy fixes” might not be possible, and more transparency would help. My point is that even when criticism is messy, the default response from other players should not be to shut it down or tell them to leave. That creates a vibe where only positive opinions are allowed, and that drives away normal people who would have given better feedback. If someone is repeating the same complaint over and over, I’m fine with redirecting them to a feedback thread, asking for specifics, or moderating spam. I just don’t think “hissy fit or not, just leave” is the move if the goal is to grow the player base.
I honestly fine the actual owner of the site to be pretty receptive to feedback. He can be a little defensive but it is his site and sometimes feedback, especially when negative, can be difficult to take. Especially when he's providing a free service (unless you opt to pay). It's the whack job events and mods that act as if any criticism is a personal condemnation towards the site and are extremely aggressive and rude and act as if any negative feedback is completely off base and unwarranted.
SpaceLab exactly that spacelab, you clocked about the whack job mods and the most loyal subjects
You said I was personally shutting down criticism and then cited an event where I implemented a rule, the feedback to it was negative, and I lifted that rule the very same day. If anything, I think that shows feedback is always regarded. I'm sorry you've been made to feel otherwise, though! 💕
Sin This blog is not geared towards you, as clarified multiple times it’s geared towards your most loyal subjects. Please re read my blogs until you no longer feel attacked by them. I respect and appreciate all your work, I cited a source because you claimed something false, I corrected it.
Airi I know it's not and I've never asked anyone to shut down criticism and I don't think anyone should, in fact it does not help the site in any way. I was moreso responding to your previois blog where you said the website owner has shut down criticism and I don't remember a time where I completely disregarded someone's opinions. Disagreed with, yes, but it's my job as the owner to choose the suggestions that get implemented.
Sin I understand that which is why I made a clarification blog, again I think you’re doing a great job, and I see you and I are on the same wavelength, sometimes our supporters are our biggest hinderance and I’m glad you’re noticing that. Keep doing a great job, as you know you’ll never make everyone happy, and to finalize, my blog was calling out a specific issue with the silence mob, nothing more.
Airi I appreciate this and agree with you, criticism should never be shut down. I think people think it bothers me but it actually helps me know what the people want!
+2.
Well yes!
